Story
Two of our Bellamy River oyster shells on a piece of driftwood. I started this painting in Sydney Sparrow’s class at Sanctuary Arts. On sale at the Seacoast Art Association in the month of February 2024 – $990 framed.
Process
Value study in raw umber.
Starting the color block-in.
Later stage. The shell on the right was making me crazy. I kept focusing on the surface and lost the form. I think I repainted it at least five times, maybe seven – probably exaggerating. I even did a little study, which looked like all the other failed attempts. Finally, I took my glasses off, and with great near-sightedness, I could only concentrate on the form, not the details.
There were a few more stages until I was super happy with Isidore and Grace.
