Backstory
Gouache painting of a Downy woodpecker hanging on to a lilac branch I propped up against my window to prevent bird strikes. He’s (how do I know it’s a he? red spot on the head) eyeing the suet hanging off-camera. I spent more time planning this gouache painting than usual – I think that’s why it came out better than others that I just dashed off. I left the paper white, which helped make him stand out.
